Unedited Session Notes by Tom TBR029 12/04/21

Start to investigate source in orbit of the planet. Sciencey scan! Detects a fancy ship that seems to use trilithium in its antimatter reactor. Transponder says it’s an armed merchantman, not military, but pretty advanced. Registered to a company called Blackwater, mercenaries who operate outside of Federation space. Big company, hired during the Dominion war, build proper warships, not so much Federation style multipurpose ships. Pretty weird, but it’s not really our job to look into it.

Elli scans the reactor, similar to a standard warp reactor, but the inner wall is coated with a super-dense new element with natural magnetic properties. More detailed stealthy scan is able to determine the chemical structure of the material which shares some properties with latinum but is somehow both denser and lighter. Seems to be oscillating in and out of space-time! Fun!

Makes lots of power, could be very fast, very powerful, very robust. Pulse phaser turrets all over the place. When we asked them for convoying a valuable cargo, though, they were very rude and refused. Also pointed weapons at us.

Undettered, Carl used his economics knowledge to find a valuable cargo of Kemocite, which convinced them we were genuine. They agreed to an escort. We set off without any trouble, and when the time comes to pay them for their trouble at the Federation border, we beam over the gold-pressed latinum and send a tracker with it, diverting the tracker’s signal so that it’s planted undetected on the hull.

When that happens, their warp bubble pulses with a strange particle field which can sometimes happen when transporting without safety measures. And it seems to have done something to our Kemocite, messed with the ejection system, and it looks like the stuff is going to cause us some problems pretty soon.

After sending everyone else into the shuttles, Carl and Elli transport some warp core plasma into the Kemocite container and suppress the reaction, but there’s a tachyon cascade which sends everyone unconscious, even the people in the shuttles.

Wake up some time later, same stars through the window, but they’re redshifted. Looks like they’re all moving away pretty quickly. After some quick science by Artopolis and Pride, it looks like we’re a few billion years in the future. Oops. But hey, at least we’re alive!

Looks like there’s a ship at extreme range, too. Interesting. Conveniently, everything being so far away means that space is pretty flat, so we can go a lot quicker! Hurrah! Smoother ride, too. And we have half the Kemocite left, so we ‘should’ be able to get back.

Recover the shuttles and the crew, then warp towards the unknown ship. As we get closer, sensors work better, and we pick up a pretty slick looking ship floating there, dead in space. It seems deserted, and it’s about 3 million years old. Looks like they had a time travel event, too.

Turns out it belongs to something called the Protectorate, and someone called Admiral Carter? Seems to mean something to some of the crew. It’s been here for a bloody long time, though. It’s called ‘The Blinding Light of Truth and Justice.’ Subtle. In low power mode, powered by a legit black hole. This one ran out of fuel a long time ago, and it seems to be evaporating. Probably a few hundred years of power left, and the senior officers seem to be in stasis and still alive.

Time to have a gander close up! All aboard the shuttle. We manage to land in one of their docking bays, and the atmosphere seems breathable. No obvious defences, either. We beam to the control room, and it seems as expected. No one there, consoles are offline. Lights turn on, though. Matter replicator thingy spawns a non-descript female humanoid which introduces itself as the ship’s AI.

Apparently there was a problem predicting the future past a bottleneck which means they don’t know what’s going on. Don’t even know how they got here, seems like a ‘just happened’ situation. Got pulled through somehow. AI says they can use our Kemocite to pull both of us back home, if we let them borrow it.

Wake up some of their crew, doc seems reluctant due to prior history with one in particular, but he gets it done, then we’re beamed to the bridge. Which is apparently massive, big enough for a few hundred. Nice big panoramic screen, very fancy. Invisible floor. Apparently both zero-g and not at the same time.

Using and generating a shitload of power. Looks like there’s a ridiculously precise timer noticed by the nerds, presumably representing how long the power’s going to last.

Apparently last time the crew visited it broke the ship’s quantum computers? And now they’ve got a quantum link with the ship. Basically didn’t do anything except that when we went through time, it dragged them through, too. So I guess it’s our fault.

Basically, they’re going to dump us back momentarily after we got booted into the future, then destroy their ship to send a message back to their prior selves so they can break the quantum link and not get launched into the future with us. Wibbly wobbly, timey-wimey, but it should all work out in the end. Hopefully maybe.

And then they do the thing, and it works! And then they explode! Big flash of light. And our Kemocite’s back, so that’s nice. Something wibbly-wobbly. Maybe because the quantum entanglement thingy is gone? Or they retuned our transporters for us somehow.
